The Seeds Are Sprouting!

Kia Ora!
May has arrived in Buffalo and my garden is off to a strong start. With the weather warming up, I’m diving into planting all of my family’s favorite veggies. There’s something special about knowing that soon, we’ll be enjoying juicy tomatoes and crunchy cucumbers straight from our own backyard.

The spinach is already up and I can’t wait to make a salad that’s more greens than anything - topped, of course, with my favorite roasted seeds.

Gardening also brings a little friendly competition with the neighbors. We trade plants, swap tips and sometimes engage in a bit of garden rivalry. It always takes me back to when my Dad and the neighbors would tour each other’s gardens. I wish I could show him mine now.

This season’s real test? Sending off our last kid to college. The garden’s thriving, but the house is about to feel a little emptier. Just like tending to a new plant, we’ve done the work, nurtured her and watched her grow; now it’s time to see how she flourishes on her own. Let the garden games begin!

Until next time,
Rebecca
