Women in Sport, Equality for All

July is an exciting month for sports. I not only cheer for the winners on the field, but also those who have fought for equal prize money and acknowledgment off the field.

I love watching Wimbeldon (Jessica Pegula is our Buffalo superstar) and as I watch these tennis matches, I can't help but think of trailblazer Billie Jean King, who made an iconic stand for equality amongst athletes.

Impressively, the US Open led the way in equal pay. Now, 50 years later, we celebrate its groundbreaking call! It took another long and challenging 34 years, but now all four Grand Slams have followed suit.

FIFA has made major strides as well, and I can’t wait for the World Cup to start in New Zealand! Shame I can’t get home to watch the games - couldn’t we sell crackers there?!

Other amazing athletes, both men and women, continue to create awareness for equality; however, there's much more to do.

The ripple effect of support for these athletes has led to a widespread sense of unity that extends far beyond the court or field they play on. It inspires future generations to go out and follow their dreams.

Let us join together to make history through victories - one win at a time!

Until next time,

Rebecca
